CS-08 Lahiri Mahasaya / Swami Sri Yukteswar
Swami Sri Yukteswar
Swami Sri Yukteswar was little known to the outside world until Paramahansa Yogananda introduced how his Guru trained him in the ancient yoga tradition from the pages of "Autobiography of a Yogi." Below are several quotes associated with true anecdotal stories he tells to the young Yogananda in this popular spiritual classic. "Look fear in the face and it will cease to trouble you." "Attachment is blinding; it lends an imaginary halo of attractiveness to the object of desire." "Good and positive suggestions should instruct the sensitive ears of children. Their early ideas long remain sharply etched." "Tender inner weaknesses, revolting at mild touches of censure, are like diseased body parts, recoiling before even delicate handling." "Some people try to be tall by cutting off the heads of others!" "Everything in the future will improve if you make the spiritual effort now."

Lahiri Mahasaya
As a householder yogi, Lahiri Mahasaya was a little known saint whose remarkable introduction to his Guru Mahavatar Babaji occurred while walking in the foothills of the Himalayas. He forbade his disciples from writing about himself or his mission predicting it would be done appropriately at a much later time. The "Autobiography of a Yogi", written by Paramahansa Yogananda, is the book that he predicted would explain the important benefits of Kriya Yoga meditation and how his life was connected to bringing it into the world from historical obscurity. "Remember that you belong to no one and no one belongs to you. Reflect that some day you will suddenly have to leave everything in this world - so make the acquaintance of God now. Prepare yourself for the coming astral journey of death by riding daily in a balloon of divine perception." "Through delusion, you are perceiving yourself as a bundle of flesh and bones, which at best, is a nest of troubles. Meditate unceasingly, that you quickly behold yourself as the Infinite Essence, free from every form of misery. Cease being a prisoner of the body; using the secret key of Kriya, learn to escape into Spirit." "Divine union is possible through self-effort, and is not dependent on theological beliefs or on the arbitrary will of a Cosmic Dictator."
